  • Music: A Little Gem of A Concert by Culver City Symphony

    Carole Bell|Jun 15, 2017

That's what Frank Fetta promised. I agree. Last Saturday's concert by the Culver City Symphony glittered. The orchestra had three rehearsals during the week; I watched them turn a plain room with folding door dividers into something lyrical. The concert wasn't exactly a cliff hanger; just a relaxing way to spend an early summer evening, with reception afterward. Fetta's had vast experience in music; he once made a recording with Igor Stravinsky. "What was he like?" I asked. "He was very stern. I...

  • Dear Editor

    Letters|Jun 15, 2017

While Neil is mostly correct that Fox Hills Residents have been largely unrepresented on City Commissions; his comments that Fox Hills residents have "never" served on "any commission" is incorrect. I served on the Park and Human Services Commission from 1974-1981 and lived in Fox Hills from 1977- 2002. At the time of my appointment at age 24 I had lived in the non-Fox Hills portion of the City my entire 24 years....

  • Durant Gets His Championship And Shouldn't Be Criticized

    Mitch Chortkoff|Jun 15, 2017

Kevin Durant played for the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2008 through 2016. He was recognized as one of the NBA’s best players but he was never on a championship team. As a free agent last summer he signed with the Golden State Warriors who had won a championship two seasons ago then lost in the finals the next season. It made perfect sense to him. He wanted a championship and they had a good chance to get him one. But a lot of fans regarded him as a traitor. Not for leaving but for joining the e...

    Steve Finley|Jun 15, 2017

One of the main reasons Rams coach Sean McVay was hired a few months ago was because of his strong offensive background. As the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins he was in charge of one of the top offenses in the NFL last year. Now McVay is trying to transform a Rams offense that was one of the worst in the NFL last season. The offense starts with the quarterback, a strong offensive line and fast and sure handed receivers. During the off season McVay has signed veteran offensive...

  • MOVIE REVIEW: SNATCHED

    debbie lynn elias|Jun 15, 2017

It's been far too long since Goldie Hawn graced the silver screen which, in and of itself, makes SNATCHED a welcome addition to this weekend's movie-going. But add the direction of Jonathan Levine and comedic antics of Amy Schumer and SNATCHED bodes well for an entertaining few hours of laughter in this mother-daughter caper of epic proportion. In spite of a lackluster script by Katie Dippold, which often feels like ideas were just thrown against the computer screen and whatever stuck was incorp...
