When free agent center Dwight Howard left the Lakers after the 2012-’13 season fans were very angry. Ever since then Howard has been treated harshly at Staples Center from the opening introductions to the final buzzer every time he’s played here. Every time he’s handled the ball in fact. It happened again Sunday night when the Lakers erased an early deficit to defeat the Atlanta Hawks. I don’t expect Laker fans to ease up on Howard because of anything I write. But I’d like to tell you what I th...

At its November 22 meeting the CCUSD Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution declaring all CCUSD campuses as “Safe Zones,” saying it won’t allow law enforcement agents looking to deport those without documentation on its campuses without a review process. The language in the resolution makes it clear that CCUSD schools are safe spaces for the diverse students and families the District serves – from every walk, talk, country and religion there is. I bumped into local photographer, Fabian Lewkowicz, on the bike path next to the Pico-Kenter Storm Drain this past Monday morning at 7:30am. I was in a hurry to get to work, but took my ninth annual “trashy” video of plastic pollutants at the mouth of the storm drain in front of Shutters Hotel. Lewkowicz one-upped me heading seaward across the sand, and ended up capturing what would become viral footage of a dramatic “third flush” of the storm drain. As of Wednesday, 11/23/16 at 2 pm there were...
Twenty-eight years ago the Edmonton Oilers rocked the sports world when they traded Wayne Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings for $15 million. The trade also included two or three additional players, and draft picks, but for the cash-strapped Oilers it was strictly a business deal. Every year NHL coaches spend countless hours in offices and on their cell phones, speaking with scores of players, including draft picks and unrestricted free agents who are free to negotiate and sign contracts with any...
