  • Jupiter: Culver Student's Unforgettable Experience

    Teela Neufeld|Aug 18, 2016

July Fourth, 2016, I didn't spend my day outside, having a barbecue, watching the fireworks or going to any parties. Instead, I was at the best party on the planet. Now, news has brewed up about this, and I always think about how lucky I was to actually be at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to see Juno - The space craft - enter the orbit of Jupiter. A lot of people were watching it streamed on TV or from home on their computer, but I think I - and everyone else there - got the best...

  • Rams' Comeback Win Excites The 89,000 Fans

    Fred Altieri|Aug 18, 2016

The Los Angeles Rams couldn't have asked for a better return to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, August 13. On face value they beat the Dallas Cowboys 28-24 in a preseason game. But the real value was in the 89,140 fans celebrating the team's come-from-behind victory. Rams running back Aaron Green caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sean Mannion with 1:54 remaining on the clock to clinch the win. The Cowboys had a 24-7 lead at halftime before the Rams scored 21...

  • Gas Sales Tax May Be Going Up

    Neil Rubenstein|Aug 18, 2016

Every time we drive the four miles to Costco for gasoline I wear an ear-to-ear smile because these low prices screw Russia, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. Also, the Iranians, sometime next year, will increase production by one million barrels a day even though the world has a daily surplus of almost two million barrels – equal to the daily consumption of France. The pump price should go lower and stay there but there is a serious problem and I immediately recognized it when the lights on the t...

  • Olympics Opening Ceremony: A Marathon - of Commercials!

    Carole Bell|Aug 18, 2016

You know that wonderful feeling you get seeing the Olympic spirit, when you feel heartened and encouraged by those beautiful TV images on the first night of the Olympics? What happened? I was shocked to see the Olympics Opening Ceremony overtaken by advertisements at a speed rate that could have its own category in the Olympics. The Olympic Motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius (Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger"). This year It might as well be "Faster, Higher, Stronger - Ooops, Time for a...

  • An Early Look At Culver City Football

    Larry Weiner and Greg Goodyear|Aug 18, 2016

Head Coach Jahmal Wright is very excited about this year's Culver City High's defensive unit. The defense is lead by a plethora of fast, speedy athletes in the secondary, as well as some athletic newcomers on the defensive line. It seems like the linebackers will develop into a cohesive group blending returning players with some athletic newcomers. DEFENSIVE LINE: Jr. Justin Berry (6'2 215) will be a first time starter on defense but got honorable mention from the coaches as a sophomore OL. He...

Dozens of parents with children in the program appeared before the city council on Monday to protest his abrupt firing by Parks and Recreation Dept. Director Dan Hernandez several weeks ago. Allegedly Pulido had a dispute with an unnamed city employee for using a storage room at the Stone House in Lindberg Park...

  • Have Kitties, Will Travel

    Sandra Coopersmith|Aug 18, 2016

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Catty Wagon (www.cattywagon.org), the first custom-built, mobile adoption vehicle created just for kittens in order to enable thousands of shelter kittens to find homes by bringing the concept of curb service to pet adoption. Failing to take advantage of this unique experience would be a cat-astrophic oversight, especially since it couldn’t be more convenient to check out the yellow truck that looks like a giant cat with ears, whiskers and a tail and is fu...
