CCPD Officers Resolve Crisis Situation

Last night April 2, Culver City Police Officers responded to a call for service of a man seeming to be experiencing a mental health crisis, throwing items out of a room and causing a disturbance at a local motel.

Officers quickly arrived and saw that the room door was ajar and that a nude adult male was inside yelling obscenities and bleeding from his hands and feet. At one point, the man exited the room and began walking toward the Officers with his fists clenched as if he was going to attack them. He then retreated back in to the room. Officers discovered that the man had thrown a chair from an upper level of the motel on to a vehicle below, shattering the windshield.

As the man exited his room several times and then re-entered, Officers attempted to communicate with him. He was highly agitated and aggressive. Through patiently using crisis negotiation skills, Officers were able to de-escalate the situation and built a rapport with the man. Eventually, he willingly exited the room and he was given medical attention needed.
