Centaurs try to stay competitive in the Bay League

With the baseball team leading the way, the Culver City High School spring athletic teams are trying to fight through the Bay League season. Facing teams like Redondo Union, Mira Costa, Santa Monica and Palos Verdes every week can be a daunting task.

The baseball team is the beacon light for the spring teams. The Centaurs are currently 13-1 and that's one of the best starts in school history. Last Wednesday they beat Redondo Union 2-1 at Redondo. They battle Redondo again on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before they travel to 11-1 Bishop Amat on Saturday. They return home on Wednesday, March 27 to play Mira Costa at 3:30 p.m.

The track and field teams are also doing well in open invitational meets and dual meets. The boys' and girls' teams are producing some of the top times in the state and after competing in five meets in the last few weeks the Centaurs will be taking a break until the second week of April. On April 6, they will be sending several of their top athletes to compete in one of the top invitationals meets in the nation, the Arcadia Invitational.

The boys' lacrosse team is currently 2-4 and their next match is Friday, March 22, against El Segundo at 5 p.m. at home. The girls' lacrosse team is currently 1-6 and they have a home match against El Segundo at 3:30 p.m.

The boy's tennis team has a home match on March 26 at 2:30 p.m. against Peninsula and the boy's volleyball team is currently 2-11 and they are hoping to improve their record when they host the Culver City Invitational on April 13, starting at 8 a.m. in the Del Goodyear Gym on the Culver City High School campus.
