SMC Emeritus Concert Band to Hold Free Concert Feb. 24

Santa Monica College's Emeritus Concert Band, under the baton of Yosuke Miyoshi, will present a free concert - "Liquid Grooves" - on Sunday, Mar. 3, at 3 p.m. The performance will be held in The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, located at 1310 11th Street (at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica.

The almost-spring concert will feature a program based on the ocean and sea.

The Emeritus Concert Band will be performing "Pacific Grooves" by Tyler S. Grant, "Water Reflections" by Yukiko Nishimura, "Loch Lomond" by Frank Ticheli, "Pirates of the Caribbean" by Klaus Badlet (arr. John Wasson), "The Bench by the Sea" by Julie Giroux, and "Land of the Healing Waters" by Rossano Galante.

"Get ready to embark on a musical voyage with the talented SMC Emeritus Concert Band," said Associate Dean (Interim) of SMC Emeritus Guadalupe Salgado. "This concert will be a delightful experience for all ages. Bring your loved ones and friends, and dive into the enchanting melodies of 'Liquid Grooves.' It's a free and fantastic event you won't want to let sail away!"

Ample free parking will be available on the premises. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.

SMC's Emeritus Concert Band is a group of musicians with a wide range of ages. The variety of musical and life experience that each band member brings to the group fuels an environment of ongoing inspiration. New members are always welcome, and can find out how to join by calling 310-434-4306.

The Concert Band has thrilled listeners with free concerts since 1979. The 60-member band is part of the acclaimed SMC Emeritus program, established in 1975 to offer free classes and special programs to older adults.
