City Clerk’s Office

· Measure Y - The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors took action on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 to certify the results of Culver City’s Special Municipal Election which was consolidated with the Statewide General (Presidential) Election held on November 6, 2012. At that Election, Culver City voters approved Measure Y with 76.79% of voters voting YES.

Now that this final action has been taken, the City Clerk shall present the Ordinance to Mayor Weissman for his signature. Staff will then transmit the executed Ordinance to the State Board of Equalization and other government bodies. The half-cent local sales tax (which sunsets after 10 years) approved by the voters will become effective on April 1, 2013.

Community Development Department

  • Bucato – A permit has been issued for a tenant improvement for a new restaurant located at 3280 Helms Avenue.

· Yo Ku Man Yogurt – Plans have been submitted for a new yogurt and coffee shop located at 10814 Jefferson Boulevard.

· Pei Wei Asian Restaurant – Plans have been approved for a tenant improvement for a new restaurant located at 4114 Sepulveda Boulevard.

· Westfield Culver City – Plans have been approved for a new food kiosk, Potato Corner and a new restaurant, Chicken Now.

· Magnus Stefansson – Plans have been submitted for a new restaurant located at 12400 Washington Boulevard.

· Helms Bakery - Sherry Yard, longtime Spago pastry chef, will be teaming up with Fathers Office owner Sang Yoon to revive the Los Angeles classic Helms Bakery. Expected to open in fall of 2013, the revitalized Helms Bakery will feature a 10,000 square foot, multi-space layout including a full-service restaurant for breakfast and lunch and a dedicated bakery with a take-away counter for prepared foods, as well as a retail section of specialty products.

  • Economic Development – Staff, in conjunction with the Culver City Chamber of Commerce and the City’s consultant, MuniServices, hosted two strategy meetings with business stakeholders from the Fox Hills and the Hayden Tract/Downtown/East Washington areas. The input provided will be incorporated into an adopted Economic Development Strategy that will provide a work plan and recommendations for enhancing the City’s economic viability.

· Fourth Wall Studios – A Culver City-based firm that produces interactive video series called "rides" for digital platforms has decided to refocus the company on its technology that can enable users to consume and interact with content on two screens simultaneously, such as a television and mobile phone. Unfortunately, 25-30 staffers involved in original content production were laid off.

· 4043 Irving – The project is approximately 45% complete, on schedule and on budget. The project is scheduled for completion in May, 2013.

· Tilden Terrace – The project is progressing on schedule. The contractor is currently working to install roof sheathing in order to avoid future rain delays. Staff continues to monitor the contractor’s performance in order to ensure the neighborhood is not adversely impacted.

· LA Phil – Staff received correspondence from the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association thanking the City Council for its support of the Park & Ride Program during the 2012 season. The program allows concert goers to park in downtown Culver City facilities, board a shuttle and attend concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. During the 2012 season 11,603 patrons boarded the shuttle in Culver City.
