  • Developer has Endorsements

    Letters|Oct 27, 2022

Dear Editor, A developer in Santa Monica is pushing through 4500 units of housing, and in Redondo Beach over 2300 units are proposed to replace the beachfront AES power plant, and for that reason (among many others) I will be voting for Alex Fisch and Freddy Puza for City Council. What happened in those towns? They failed to do what Culver City did under Alex Fisch and his colleagues Daniel Lee and Yasmine McMorrin. Thanks to those three Culver City passed a legitimate Housing Element and...

  • Support for Fisch and Puza

    Oct 27, 2022

Dear Neighbors, If you have not already voted, I ask that you vote for Alex Fisch and Freddy Puza for City Council. Electing any of the other candidates will create a conservative majority on the Council which will slow or reverse environmental protection, workers' rights, regulations which have kept renters in their homes, and long-term strategies to address homelessness. Some of the other candidates may say things that superficially sound good on these issues, but they are backed by conservative elected officials and business groups who are...

A federal appeals court has temporarily blocked President Biden's student loan forgiveness program, halting the administration's ability to dole out up to $20,000 in relief to student borrowers. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit issued a stay on the program Friday after an appeal from six Republican attorneys general representing GOP-led states. The ruling came the same week that the Department of Education officially launched the aid application website. And since then, almost 22...

  • Injury riddled Chargers fall to the Seattle Seahawks

    Bill Seals, Sports Reporter|Oct 27, 2022

Hall of Fame football Coach Bill Parcells once said, "You are what your record says you are." He might have made an exception with the 2022 Los Angeles Chargers, who are 4-3 after falling to the Seattle Seahawks, 37-23, in a game played last Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The 4-3 Chargers do not look like a team with a winning record at this point, especially after blowout losses at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seahawks. The injury riddled Chargers fell behind 17-0 after one quarte...

  • The "The Hit Man" of hockey will have his number retired and a statue dedication after 18 years with the Kings

    Steven Lieberman, Observer Reporter|Oct 27, 2022

When former LA Kings captain, veteran, and right-winger, Dustin Brown, retired at the conclusion of the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, some fans were saying that it was a good decision. That “Father Time” had been been calling his name for several years and that he was significantly overpaid since 2016. But sitting in the Crypto.com Arena for the opening two games of this season, there seemed to be a void, a sense of loss not seeing #23 out on the ice, a presence that was felt for all of his...

  • Bureau of Redundancy Bureau

    Oct 27, 2022

By Jon Coupal President Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association Much of what government does is wasteful, ineffective, and redundant. For example, Senate Bill 679 was recently signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom as part of the "housing and homelessness package" of bills intended to address the state's housing shortage. While no one disputes the severity of California's housing crisis, this legislation is seriously flawed. SB 679 establishes the Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency and authorizes the agency to, among other...

As elected leaders we are held to a higher standard, and while we should never accept racist remarks from anyone, it is particularly heinous when those remarks are made by the people, we have entrusted to lead us. As widely reported by the Los Angeles Times, L.A. Councilmembers Martinez, de Leon and Cedillo engaged in an abhorrent conversation that demeaned and disrespected their fellow Councilmember Mike Bonin, his family, other LA City Councilmembers and the African-American community as a...
