    Bill Seals|Jun 25, 2020

The UCLA Bruin’s football team is about two months away from opening the season and they still have a lot of unanswered questions on their roster. The cancellation of spring practice and the spring football game due to the coronavirus outbreak probably did not help, either. Chip Kelly is entering into his third season as UCLA head football coach and he needs to win. The Bruins are 7-17 under Kelly in two seasons. The Bruins have not been good on the defensive side of the ball over the past t...

  • Opposition to Defunding CCPD

    Letters|Jun 25, 2020

Dear Councilmember, I am writing to express my disapproval of what appears to be a reflexive action to consider reducing the budget of our police dept based on the recent unrest surrounding the senseless killing of George Floyd and other Black males at the hands of law enforcement. As an African-American male who has lived in Culver City for over 30 years, I believe I bring another perspective compared to my progressive friends/acquaintances, most of which happen to be white, now (some)...

  • Council Majority Said CCPD will not see Layoffs

    Stephen Hadland, Observer Publisher|Jun 25, 2020

Protect Culver City, a political action commitee, predicted that they may face opposition, and they were right. Culver City Action Network organized about 40-50 speakers, who got in line first at this week's City Council meeting "to discuss police policies and budget." They pushed for CCAN's position to remove 20% or more from the police budget and put it into social programs of their choosing. Council cut off the rest of the comments - about 200 of them - so they would have time to deliberate...

  • Virus beats Culver City Track teams to the finish line

    Steve Finley, Sports Editor|Jun 25, 2020

It's beginning to sound like a broken record. The coronavirus has stopped another Culver City high school spring sport in its tracks. This time it's the track and field teams. For the younger generation a record is a plastic vinyl disc that was placed on a turn table that plays music. If the record is broken it repeats itself. Enough about history 101. The four track and field teams along with nine other springs sports saw their seasons end during the first few weeks of March. Baseball, golf, bo...
