Culver City Track Invitational highlights a busy CCHS sports week

Culver City high school Spring Sports has just started but one of the biggest sporting events in the spring in the city of Culver City will take place on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The Culver City Track and Field Invitational will host 40 high schools that will be competing on the Centaur track. It's one of the biggest track invitationals in Southern California.

"We are so excited to host this track and field meet," said Culver City's head track and field coach Jahmal Wright last Tuesday during practice on the Centaur track. "It's always been a dream of mine as a coach to have so many quality schools all come together and compete at a high level."

Some of the schools with deep track and field history that will be competing on Saturday are Compton, Dorsey, Palisades, Taft, Santa Monica, Hawthorne, Beverly Hills, Long Beach Poly and Long Beach Wilson.

Six other Culver City spring sports teams have already started their season. The Centaur baseball team started the season with a 6-0 record but they lost to El Segundo 6-2 last Tuesday. They play two tournament games this week. They week they travel to Mayfair for a 3 p.m. game on March 4, and they stay on the road against Los Angeles Hamilton on March 6, at 3 p.m. They return home on March 8, for a 3:30 game against Westchester.

The softball is currently 2-3 after losing to a very good Granada Hills team 12-0 last Tuesday at home. The Centaurs had a hard time hitting one of best pitchers in the CIF City Section, Addison Moorman. They host Palisades on March 1, at 3:30 p.m. and they travel to Peninsula for a 3:15 p.m. contest on March 5. They return home to face Garden Grove at 4 p.m. on March 9.

The boys' volleyball team is currently 1-2 and they host Monrovia at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 29. They will play two more home games against Santa Monica on March 4, at 3:30 p.m. and Paramount on March 7, at 3:30 p.m.

The girls' lacrosse team is currently 0-2 and they have a home match against El Camino Real on March 6, at 3:30 p.m. and they travel to Lynwood to play a 4 p.m. match on March 8. The boys' lacrosse team is 0-1 and they host Brentwood on March 1, at 5 p.m. and they travel to Lynwood to play a 6 p.m. match on March 8.

The boys' tennis team is currently 2-0 and they host Windward on Thursday, February 29, at 3 p.m. On March 4, they host Venice at 3 p.m. and on March 5, they travel to Chadwick and on March 7 they stay on the road to battle Santa Monica.
