A favorite summer tradition, free concerts at Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey, returns on Saturday, July 15th at 7:00 pm for its 23rd season. The Marina del Rey Summer Symphony will present exciting new music from an unexpected source for many – video game music. Outstanding composers have been writing enjoyable and accessible music for video games, just as they have long done for movie scores.
Maestro Steven Allen Fox, a leading talent in the movie and music industries, has created a first-person experience featuring the orchestra, the 65 member SoCAL Chorus, projections on the jumbotrons and a growing list of special guests. So, bring your lawn chair, beach chairs or blankets, and your favorite picnic foods, and enjoy the music in a beautiful setting.
The concert will cap an afternoon long celebration at the park to kick off the new county initiative, Marina del Rey for All. From 2:00 to 7:00 pm there will be activities, community art, a resource fair, gourmet food trucks, Water Bus rides, cultural activities and more, culminating in the concert. Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, who represents Supervisorial District 2, including Marina del Rey, sponsored the initiative.
The county is seeking community input on re-imagining Marina del Rey – making it more accessible, inclusive, equitable and sustainable for all county residents, while protecting nature. An input survey can be completed at http://www.mdr4all.org.
Video game scores included in the concert are World of Warcraft, God of War, Lair, Star Wars: Old Republic, Afrika, Civilization IV and VI, Journey, Medal of Honor: European Assault, Everquest II, Lineage and Call of Duty: Black Ops.
The afternoon celebration and concert are sponsored by the LA County Beaches and Harbors. Additional information on. e orchestra and Steven Al. Fox can be found at ; and on the festival and Marina del Rey for All at http://www.beaches.lacounty.gov. Parking is available in multiple public lots around Marina del Rey.
The second free Marina del Rey Summer Symphony concert, "Film Music at the Shore," will be Thursday, July 27, at 7:00 pm at the Park.
