At its May 24 meeting, the CCUSD Board of Education voted to name Dr. Kelli Tarvyd as the District's new State and Federal Program and Assessment & Accountability Director, effective July 1.

Tarvyd most recently served as CCHS's Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction, a position she has held since 2014. In that role, Tarvyd was responsible for creating the school's Master Schedule centered on inclusive practices; administered and coordinated activities program, student discipline and restorative practices behavior programs; and led staff towards the implementation of Culturally Relevant Teaching and Grading for Equity.

She has served the District in a variety of positions since 1995. Tarvyd began her career as a social studies teacher and taught on the CCHS campus for 19 years before moving into an administrative role.

"Dr. Tarvyd is a fixture in Culver City and comes to this position with a depth and breadth of knowledge about CCUSD that will be a real asset to the District in this new role," said Superintendent Quoc Tran. "I know her unique experience and expertise will help us as we pursue new grants and evaluate our existing and future state and federal programs."

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent – Educational Services, Tarvyd will oversee direction and coordination for the District's federal and state categorical programs as well as participation in preparation of applications for competitive grants. Her new responsibilities encompass program development, management, and evaluation of school sites' implementation, inservice, multicultural awareness and understanding, parent involvement and education, and auxiliary services components.

Tarvyd is an experienced grant writer, who has helped secure nearly $1 million in grants for CCUSD, including an $800,000 Digital high school Grant for CCHS. She is fluent in French and was the recipient of a Japan-United States Teachers Institute Fellowship in Japan.

Tarvyd, a Culver City resident who went through CCUSD schools and graduated from CCHS, earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy from Pepperdine University. She also holds two master's degrees – one in Educational Administration and another in Education – from California State University, Los Angeles. Tarvyd earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science from UCLA.

"As a lifelong Centaur, I am excited to serve our district in a new role," Tarvyd said.
