Do you ever want to get away from it all for just one day?

Well a day trip to Ojai from Culver City is a perfect getaway for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those who seek relaxation. The Ojai winter rains have given way to a most glorious spring seen in years! It’s such a pleasant scenic drive that takes views of orange orchards, babbling brooks, and open country with magnificent mountain views

Getting There: There are different ways to reach Ojai. My preferred scenic route is to take the 101 North from Culver City, and follow the signs for Ventura. Take the exit for Hwy 126 to Santa Paula and from there take Hwy 150 and follow the signs for Ojai. The total distance is around 80 miles, and the drive should take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Make sure to check the traffic conditions before leaving, as it can get congested during peak hours.

What to See and Do:

• Ojai Valley Museum: Start your day by visiting the Ojai Valley Museum, which showcases the rich history and culture of the Ojai Valley. The museum has a collection of photographs, artifacts, and exhibits that take you on a journey through time. Admission fees are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children under 18.

• Los Padres National Forest: Take a hike in the Los Padres National Forest, which is located in the heart of the Ojai Valley. The forest has a variety of trails for hikers of all levels, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Some of the popular trails include the Ventura River Preserve, the Gridley Trail, and the Pratt Trail. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks.

• Ojai Farmers' Market: Visit the Ojai Farmers' Market, which is open every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm. The market features local produce, artisanal crafts, and live music. It's a great place to grab a bite to eat, shop for souvenirs, and soak up the local culture.

• Downtown Ojai: Explore the shops, galleries, and restaurants in downtown Ojai, which has a charming and relaxed atmosphere. Some of the must-visit places include Bart's Books, Ojai Art Center, and Ojai Olive Oil Company. You can also go raw honey tasting at Heavenly Honey Company tasting room in the Ojai arcade on main street.

Where to Eat: For a small town Ojai offers plenty of places to eat. Here are some of them.

• The Nest: This farm-to-table restaurant is located in downtown Ojai and offers a range of delicious dishes made with fresh and locally sourced ingredients. The menu changes seasonally, but some of the popular dishes include pork belly tacos, roasted beet salad, and the grass-fed burger.

• Osteria Monte Grappa: This Italian restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Ojai and offers a cozy and romantic atmosphere. The menu features classic Italian dishes such as pasta, pizza, and seafood. Make sure to try the truffle fries and the pappardelle with bolognese sauce.

• Knead Baking Company: This bakery and cafe is located in downtown Ojai and offers a range of artisanal bread, pastries, and coffee. It's a great place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch, or to stock up on snacks for your hike in the national forest.

On your return to Culver City you can continue driving on Hwy 150 to see Lake Casitas and connect to Hwy 101 or take Hwy 33 back down to Hwy101 south to Culver City.
