Weinstein Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison by California Judge

Convicted Rapist Harvey Weinstein, 70, was sentenced to 16 years in prison Thursday after the disgraced Hollywood power broker was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault and related crimes in Los Angeles.

A California jury convicted Mr. Weinstein in December of forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration with a foreign object and rape, all against the same woman.

Mr. Weinstein, 70 years old, had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The former film producer, who co-founded Miramax and Weinstein Co., He was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York after being found guilty of third-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual act in 2020. In that trial, he was acquitted of first-degree rape and predatory sexual assault. Weinstein has appealed his conviction.

Mr. Weinstein's trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court involved allegations of sexual assault brought by five women. The women said the assaults occurred between 2004 and 2013.

Mr. Weinstein was acquitted of one count of sexual battery by restraint against one of the women. The jury failed to reach a verdict on other charges, including additional counts of sexual battery by restraint, forcible oral copulation and rape against two other women.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, was one of the accusers whose charge wasn't decided by the jury. She testified that Mr. Weinstein raped her nearly 20 years ago after the two had met at a party at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Judge Lisa Lench had earlier dismissed four other counts against Mr. Weinstein after prosecutors declined to pursue allegations involving a woman identified only as Jane Doe No. 5.
