Culver City girls' basketball knocked out of the playoffs by Leuzinger

The Lady Centaurs basketball season ended last Wednesday night when a very good Leuzinger team beat Culver City 60-35 in the CIF quarter-finals at Culver City. They finished the season with a record of 23-7 overall and 6-4 in the Bay league. They placed third in league play behind Redondo Union and Santa Monica.

Leuzinger is one of the best teams in Southern California and they were at the top of their game against the Centaurs. They used their height and speed to over power Culver City. “They were a more physical team tonight,” said Centaur head coach Julian Anderson after the game. “I thought we played decent but it was not good enough.”

Now it’s time to focus on next season. “We need to rebuild the team for next season and try to figure out the next steps and the next roster, that’s the biggest thing” said Anderson. “We hope that the girls that did not get a chance to play that much understand what it takes to be able to play in a CIF playoff game. Hopefully they will be motivated in the spring and summer to come out here and put in the work.”

A 23-7 record is an outstanding season but good programs are never satisfied unless they win a championship. “We need to improve the skills of the new group of players and work on conditioning,” said Anderson. “The girls that sat on the bench this season have promise and now it’s their turn to get out there and prove themselves. Hopefully they will be dedicated this spring and summer to work hard.”
