Candidate Freddy Puza has won a seat on the Culver City Council while Measure VY has gained momentum and is only 3 votes short of passage, according to semi-official results released yesterday.

The last election update from Los Angeles County Registrar shows that Puza tallied 6900 votes, surpassing incumber Alex Fisch with 6610 votes, and winning the second open seat on the City Council.

Fisch conceded the race on Twitter, congratulating Puza and other winners in local races.

Joining Puza on the Council will be Dan O’Brien who topped the field with 7523 votes.

The other Council contenders finished the race with following totals: Denice Renteria with 6389 votes, Khin Khin Gyi with 1515 and Devin Yaeger with 1110

O’Brien and Puza will be sworn in at the December 12 Council meeting.

The latest update also revealed no change in the School Board race.

Brian Guerrero still leads with 6653 votes, followed by Triston Ezidore with 6562 votes and Stephanie Loredo with 6279 votes, outpacing the fourth place finished by 800 votes.

These three candidates will fill the three open seats on the Board of Education.

Results also show the other contenders with following totals: incumbent Summer McBride, 5381; Darrel Menthe, 5317; Howard Adelman, 6071 votes; and Marci Braun, 3914 votes.

Measure VY – the initiative which would allow 16- and 17-year-old residents to vote in local elections – is still short by some 3 votes -- with 8291 "no" votes and 8288 votes in favor.

Measure BL – which would reform the city’s license business tax – passes with 60% of the voters approving it.

County Registrar’s officials said another update will be released early next week and the results will be certified by December 8.
