Two men who allegedly committed two armed robberies in Culver City were arrested by Beverly Hills police last week after a brief standoff with authorities.

According to the Culver City Police Department, the two suspects went on a crime spree on the afternoon of November 9.

The first robbery occurred around 1:45 p.m. near Washington Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard, where the two suspects had rear-ended a woman's vehicle and approached her at gunpoint, said CCPD. They took her phone and drove away before committing a similar crime minutes later near Washington Boulevard and Landmark Street, stealing the victim’s cellphone before driving away towards National Boulevard.

The victim provided a description of the suspect along with the vehicle license plate number, which led to their arrest, police said.

The two suspects were pulled over by police officers around 4:30 p.m. on November 9 in the 200 block of North Beverly Drive, near Wilshire Boulevard, said CCPD in a statement.

The Beverly Hills Police Department officers learned that the two were suspects in the armed robberies shortly after making the traffic stop.

“During this process, the suspect fired a single gunshot, which did not result in injuries to anyone on scene.,” said CCPD in a statement. “Beverly Hills Police Officers proceeded with utilizing less lethal weapons and a K-9 in ultimately apprehending the suspect.”

CCPD said one suspect quickly exited the vehicle and surrendered to authorities, but it took a while before the second suspect could be coerced from inside of the car.

After a brief standoff, BHPD arrested the suspect with the help of its K-9 unit. After the arrest, officers uncovered a handgun and assault rifle inside the suspect’s vehicle, said local police.

Beverly Hills Fire Department was on scene and provided medical aid to the suspect who sustained injuries during the encounter. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he received further medical treatment and later transported to Culver City Police Department.

The suspect was booked on several charges, including armed robbery, discharging of a firearm, and resisting arrest, CCPD said. His case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing considerations.

Local police detectives said one of the suspects may be responsible for multiple freeway shootings in Los Angeles on November 9.
