September 29, 2022

Free community event, Water Harvest, returns in-person on Saturday, Oct. 22

The West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) will bring the community together at its facility in El Segundo on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 10am to 2pm for a birthday themed water education festival celebrating 75 years since the District’s formation. The free, family-friendly event seeks to share its water wisdom through stage shows, games, water recycling facility tours, giveaways, opportunity drawings and more. “We hope everyone will join us to say happy 75th birthday and celebrate a long history of water reliability for our communities,” said Board President Donald L. Dear. “This festival couldn’t come at a more fitting time considering our drought conditions and the many ways that our neighbors can join us in securing another 75 years of reliable, high-quality water for our service area.”

This year’s schedule of events will include energetic and enlightening presentations by water experts from the California Department of Water Resources, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts and Water Replenishment District. Knowledgeable staff will spotlight the journey of our precious water resources to and from our homes, showcase how to use water efficiently and why. In addition, West Basin will also lead regular tours of its recycling facility, which produces about 40 million gallons of drought-resilient recycled water each day.

Local favorite exhibitors, the Roundhouse Aquarium, UC Master Gardeners and the ever-popular drought-tolerant reptile petting booth, will return to teach festival-goers about our beloved local habitats.

After an entertaining kids costume contest, the day will cap off with sweet treats and opportunity drawings for an array of prizes, such as a water efficient washing machine, painted rain barrels and other kid-friendly winnings.
