Main Street is now a car-free zone on the weekends.
Last Friday, Culver City began closing Main Street between Culver Boulevard and the city limit to car traffic on weekends. Water-filled barricades are placed at both ends of the street each Friday at 6 p.m. until the following Monday at 6 a.m.
All businesses on the street and downtown parking structures will remain open during the street closure.
“Consider walking, biking, scooting or taking a Culver CityBus to Main Street,” said city officials in a statement. “If you are arriving by car, please note that on-street parking on Main Street will be prohibited during that time.”
On March 28, the City Council approved the closure plan. Public Works staff, in coordination with the Fire and Police Departments, conducted a successful test closure from June 17 to 20.
