The Los Angeles Dodgers added outfielder Trayce Thompson to the active roster and placed left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson on the injured list with left forearm tendinitis. Additionally, the Dodgers transferred right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler to the 60-day injured list to make room for Thompson on the 40-man roster.

Thompson, 31, was acquired last night from the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations. He joins the Dodgers for the second time in his career after spending parts of the 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Boys in Blue. In two years with the Dodgers, he hit .207 (59-for-285) with 14 homers and 34 RBI in 107 games. He started the season with the San Diego Padres, going 1-for-14 with two RBI in six games before designated for assignment on May 10 and joining the Detroit Tigers on May 19. With Triple-A Toledo, he was batting .299 (29-for-97) with eight homers and 19 RBI in 25 games. In 41 AAA games this season, he was slashing .365/.721/1.086 with 17 homers and 36 RBI. He has spent parts of six seasons in the Major Leagues with Chicago-AL (2015), Los Angeles-NL (2016-17), Oakland (2018), Chicago-AL (2018), Chicago-NL (2021) and San Diego (2022), hitting a combined .205 with 26 homers and 70 RBI. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in second round of the 2009 First Year Player Draft out of Santa Margarita Catholic high school.

Ferguson, 25, heads to the injured list for the second time this season and he was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/5.0 IP) in six games for the Dodgers this season. He is in his fourth Major League season, and he is a combined 10-5 with a 3.76 ERA (49 ER/117.1 IP) and 145 strikeouts in 102 games (six starts). He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 38th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of West Jefferson High School.
