Council debated a number of issues Monday, but the big one was two ballot measures proposed for the November ballot. First was a business tax increase. The second was a "parcel tax" increase - this is a way local governments get around Prop 13 to pass property tax increases. Council decided that if they put up both, they'll be destined to failure. So they agreed to just put up the business tax. The Finance Advisory Committee said this was a bad time for either tax increase. Businesses are already struggling from the Covid lockdowns.
