Venice high school Locked Down

Venice high school was temporarily locked down Friday morning following reports of a weapon on campus.

Los Angeles Unified School District police were called to the school located at 13000 Venice Boulevard around 10 a.m., Sgt. Perez confirmed to the local press.

As of 11:50 a.m., the school was considered safe and the lockdown had been lifted, Perez confirmed.

Investigators did not find a weapon and no arrests were made.

Barfight Leads to Arrest at the Fairmont Hotel

A guy in a bar slaps security guard, gets arrested, and the SMPD issues a press release. It’s called Sunday in Santa Monica.

“5.15.22: Officers working in the downtown area were dispatched to a battery in progress at the Fairmont Hotel near the 100 block of Wilshire Blvd.

A team of security guards were holding down an individual, later identified as Byron Parr, for becoming violent after refusing to leave the hotel bathroom.

Upon arrival officers learned that security contacted two individuals loitering in the bathroom.

When confronted, one party agreed to leave without incident, the other, Mr. Parr, became argumentative and slapped one of the security officers with an open hand. The security team was able to restrain the suspect until officers arrived. Parr was transported to the Santa Monica Jail. Parr was released with a citation and a June 2nd court date.

Skaggs Given Award

5.17.22: Physical education Teacher and former SamoHi Softball Coach Debbie Skaggs was presented with a Konolds Principals award on Tuesday. The award was presented by Dr. Anthony Shelton, principal of Santa Monica high school, in recognition for 35 years of teaching and 27 years of coaching at Santa Monica high school.

During her time at Samohi, Skaggs lead the girls to 12 league championships and 2 CIF titles.

“Anyone that took PE with Skaggs knows it’s one of the most enjoyable things you can be a part of on campus. I loved getting to 5th period every day freshman year and getting to learn and spend time in her class,” wrote Owen Halpert on Social media.

“My son was fortunate to have Ms Skaggs for PE one year. She was so motivating, so great at seeing kids potentials, and a lot of fun!” Posted Tatiana Bacat.
