Culver City high school teams start CIF playoffs this week

The most exciting time for any sport is the playoffs. The Culver City High School Centaurs are fortunate to have six teams in the spring sports playoffs. Baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse and boys and girls track and field teams started or will start their quest to be crowned CIF Champions this week.

The baseball team got off to a great start when they beat Santa Barbara 7-3 last Tuesday at home. They advanced to the second round on Thursday when they travel to Ventura high school for a 3:15 p.m. game. Ventura is 14-13-1 overall but they took first place in the Pacific View league with a record of 11-4. Culver City is 15-7 overall and they took second place in the Bay league with a record of 8-2.

The boy's lacrosse team will play the winner of the Northwood against Redondo Union match on Friday at home at 7 p.m. The boys are 10-7 overall. The girl's lacrosse team will battle Upland's Western Christian high school at 12 p.m. on Saturday at home. Culver City is 13-3 overall and Western Christian is 20-4.

The boys track team will travel to Moorpark high school on Saturday to compete in the CIF prelims. Leading the way for the Centaur boys is Zaire Waring. He qualified in the 200 and 400 meters and he will join three other Centaurs on the 4X400 relay. Waring took first place in 200 and 400 and the relay team also took first place at the Bay league Finals at Mira Costa high school last Friday. Joining Waring on the relay team is Jerin Stanton, Dontay Mayrant and Duaine Mayrant.

The girls track team will also be competing at Moorpark on Saturday. Leading the way for the girls will be Morgan Maddox and Joelle Trepagnier. Both girls qualified in the 200 and 400 meters. They also ran on the winning 4X100 and 4X400 meter relays at the Bay league Finals at Mira Costa last Friday. Also running on the 4X100 relay was Andrea Smith and Imaan Minwalla and joining Maddox and Trepagnier on the 4X400 relay was Kennady Iverson and Savanna Mullins.
