Pedestrian Hit by Vehicle, Killed in Palms

A pedestrian was killed last week after he was struck by a vehicle in Palms.

The crash occurred about 10:20 p.m. on April 28, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The driver of a Kia Soul was travelling east on Palms Boulevard and Vinton Avenue when it collided with a man who was crossing the street, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics provided medical attention to the victim, who died at the scene, police said. His name was not released. LAPD said the victim has been identified and they have notified his next of kin.

The driver of the Kia Soul remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with the investigation, LAPD said.

“It is unknown if speed was a factor in this collision,” police said. “Alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor.”

The investigation is ongoing.

"Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves," police said in a press release. "The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road."

Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD West Traffic detectives at (213) 473-0234. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
