Culver City High School Among Best Ranked in State: U.S. News

Culver City high school ranked among the top schools in California and nationwide, according to the latest rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

Culver High came it at 237 in California and 1,657 nationally. The school has a 96 percent graduation rate, according to U.S. News.

Nearly 18,000 high schools in 50 states were ranked by U.S. News, including 1,603 in the Golden State. The rankings were based on how students performed on state assessments and how well they were prepared for college.

The LA County schools that received top rankings nationwide included: Whitney high school in Carson, placing 14th; California Academy of Mathematics and Science in Long Beach, which came it at 15; and Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy in Wilmington, ranked 62.

The Westside schools that fared well in the rankings included: Palos Verdes Peninsula high school which came it 324, Mira Costa high school in Manhattan Beach, placing 470th , El Segundo high school, which came it at 596, Santa Monica high school at 829, and Venice high school, ranked 2,533.

The top 5 schools in this year's Best High Schools ranking were Thomas Jefferson high school for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia; Academic Magnet high school in North Charleston, South Carolina; Signature School in Evansville, Indiana ; School for Advanced Studies in Miami, Florida; and Payton College Preparatory high school in Chicago, Illinois

According to U.S. News, the high schools were ranked on six measures: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment performance, state assessment proficiency, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance and graduation rates.

The data used in this year's ranking derived from the 2019-20 academic school year. U.S. News adjusted its calculation of these measures to account for the impact COVID-19 on schools.
