Spring and hot weather are in the air and for several Culver City High School athletic teams that means they are heating up with the weather. The boy's baseball team, girl's lacrosse and boy's lacrosse are in first place in their leagues and tennis has an 8-4 overall record.

Boys' volleyball is struggling this year with a 2-8 record but the girls' softball team is hoping to get pass the .500 mark in the next few weeks. The softball team has an overall record of 8-11 and they play a very important Bay league game at home against Mira Costa on Friday at 3:30 p.m. they are 1-2 in league play.

If they can eliminate the mental and physical errors their team is good enough to make a run at the Bay league title. "We need to translate what we do in practice into what we do in the game," said head coach Brandy Peacock after their 8-6 loss to Santa Monica last week at Culver City. "I think the team gets nervous sometimes and we kill ourselves on physical mistakes."

Peacock thinks the remedy is to step up the level of concentration in practice. "We are going to pick up the pace in practice and really step up the intensity. We have veteran hitters and they are watching strikes go by. We need to refocus."

The offense and pitching are led by Taylor Peacock, the coach's daughter. She is a power pitcher and she is also their best hitter, batting over.500 with three home runs. "She is having quality at bats," said Brandy Peacock.

The Bay league is tough and Brandy Peacock is hoping for senior leadership to take over. "This is going to be a dog fight. We had a lot of fun last year because we did not have anything to lose. This year the bar is set high and we need some of the seniors to step up."

The baseball team is 6-4 overall and is currently tied first place in the Bay league with a record of 3-0. The team that they are tied with is Palos Verdes. They play the Mustangs twice this week. They beat them last Wednesday at home 13-2 and they travel to Mira Costa for a 3:15 p.m. game on Friday. Culver City hopes to duplicate what they did last week when they swept Redondo Union and when they beat the Mustangs on Wednesday.

The girl's lacrosse team is also in first place in the Bay league with an overall record of 9-2 and league record of 4-0 and they are also the No. 3 ranked team in the CIF Division 3. The boy's lacrosse team is 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the Ocean league. They play at El Segundo on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
