Most people start their Saturdays off pretty slow but not the student athletes that competed at last Saturday's Culver City Invitational track and field meet at Culver City High School.
Over 20 schools throughout the area were well represented. Some of the local schools were Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Palisades, Hamilton and Venice. The all-day meet included athletes from frosh/soph and varsity teams.
From the field events to the races, it was a very competitive afternoon. The standout events for the Culver City boys and girls' teams were the 100 and hurdles, the 100 meters, the 400 meters and the relays.
After a dominating performance the week Culver City once again showed why they have one of the best boys and girls track and field programs in Southern California.
Two Lady Centaurs who recorded outstanding performances were freshman Joelie Trepagnier who ran 12.46 for third place and sophomore Andrea Smith who clocked 12.53 for fourth in the varsity 100 meters. Also, for the girls, freshman Naomi Kim won three first place medals when she won the 300-meter hurdles and ran on the winning frosh/soph 4X100 and 4X400 meter relays.
On the boys' side returning CIF champion, senior Zaire Waring shined bright as he excelled in the 110 meters and the 300 meter hurdles with times of 15.67 and 39.42 respectively. He also ran on the winning varsity 4X100 meter relay.
The Centaurs compete in the Redondo Invitational this Saturday at Redondo Union high school and on Saturday, March 19, they will run and jump in the Mustang Relays at Mira Costa high school.
