The highly transmissible Omicron variant has once again intensified personal risk calculations around once routine activities, such as air travel.

One silver lining for those who are flying in the first few months of 2022 is that Airfares are down.

The Omicron variant of the coronavirus is up to three times more infectious than the Delta variant, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday.

The risk of travel is probably not higher with Omicron however.

“It’s hard to say (that) because it depends on whether you're talking about infection or hospitalization," said Linsey Marr, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech who studies how viruses travel in the air
