Culver City basketball's confidence grows as new leaders emerge

Culver City – The anticipated, pre-season, coaching debut of legendary player and coach, Michael Cooper, took place this past weekend in Garden Grove. Coach Cooper led the Centaurs to a 4-0 record and a championship at the Aloha Challenge.

Coach Cooper introduced his brand of fast paced, yet, controlled basketball with a heavy emphasis on defensive pressure/intensity and offensive focus on appreciating each possession by creating quality opportunities to score with ball movement. Although, it is only the pre-season and this was the Centaurs first opportunity to play under Coach Cooper, no one can argue that they are off to a pretty good start.

This season's version of the Centaurs are led by three standout upper classmen – senior wing Jackson Hopps, junior wing Conner Scales and junior point guard Mateo Castro Jr.

The Centaurs open their season November 23, 2021, away, at Beverly Hills high school in a non-league showdown.
