Culver City to Require Proof of Vaccination at Restaurants, Gyms, Spas Starting Nov. 29

Following direction from the City Council, the City Manager this week issued a public order requiring proof of Covid-19 vaccination at certain local indoor businesses and city facilities beginning November 29.

As part of the 38th Supplement to Public Order, Culver City is mandating the vaccine requirement for the following locations: food and beverage establishments, gyms and fitness venues and personal care establishments, entertainment and recreational venues and city facilities.

The new vaccine mandate also applies to outdoor large events (between 5,000 and 9,999 attendees)

Under the order, businesses are required to verify proof of vaccination for anyone 18 years of age and older, including employees, said city officials.

"Unvaccinated patrons must use outdoor facilities," said the public order. "If no outdoor facilities are available, they can use indoor facilities with a negative COVID-19 test and while wearing a surgical mask."

In city facilities, unvaccinated individuals will be provided "alternative arrangements for access to city services, including online or remote services," said city officials.

The new public order comes a week after the City Council started a discussion on whether or not it would require patrons and staff at indoors establishments to show proof of a full Covid-19 vaccination and directed staff to draft and issue the mandate.

The Culver City mandate follows a countywide proof of vaccination requirement that took effect two weeks ago. The county policy states that proof of at least one vaccine dose will be required to both enter or work at indoor parts of bars, nightclubs, breweries and lounges across Los Angeles County.

Last month, Los Angeles City Council voted to require patrons at indoor spaces such as restaurants, gyms and movie theaters to show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination -- starting November 4.

Under the new LA law, individuals with medical or religious exemptions must provide a form declaring that. City officials also reminded residents they are required to wear a mask in indoor public settings, regardless of vaccination status.
