CCPD Awarded $105,000 Traffic Safety Grant

October 14, 2021

The Culver City Police Department will continue its traffic safety program to deter dangerous and illegal driving and reduce traffic collisions in the community, thanks to a new $105,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, authorities announced this week.

"Impairment, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors jeopardize the safety of other people on the road," said Culver City Police Chief Manuel Cid. "This funding allows us to continue to provide additional traffic enforcement measures, with the goal of further reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads."

The grant will pay for additional enforcement measures, including: DUI checkpoints and patrols focused on suspected impaired drivers; enforcement of hands free cell phone law; bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement; community education presentations on traffic safety issues; and officer training and/or recertification on Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

The grant program will run through September 2022, police officials said.
