Stephen Michael Kelly, 1950 - 2021

October 7, 2021

May 25, 1950 – Vietnam Veteranber 5, 2021 Stephen Michael Patrick Kelly was a big man in many ways. Not just physically but in his love of life, friends, and family. The biggest part of Steve was his heart as can be evidenced by the outpouring of calls from around the country to the family. Steve grew up in Harrison, New Jersey and was one of 10 children of Helen (nee Gorski) and Joseph Kelly. Brothers Joe (Anne), Lawrence (Alice), Ronald (Tina), Colin (Kathleen), Frederich (Elizabeth), Eugene (deceased), sisters Maureen (Eugene) Gilmore, Sharon (Michael) Mathewson and Kathleen (Thomas) Earl will truly miss him along with his many nieces and nephews. Steve served his country in the U.S. Army and was a decorated combat Medic in Vietnam. He moved to California over 42 years ago and worked in the U.S. Post Office until his retirement in 2009. When Steve moved to California he first worked as a security guard at Twentieth Century Fox studios in West Los Angeles and auditioned for parts in movies, commercials and short subjects before joining the post office. He would always be telling us all sorts of funny stories about the movie stars he encountered and you didn't know whether to believe him or not. He also delivered pizzas to many famous folks in Pacific Palisades. Steve had a personality as big as himself that would draw people to him and they would always become his friend. Steve could be very opinionated and passionate in his beliefs. He was a great friend and would do anything for a friend even if he went without. Steve belonged to many organizations in his lifetime, including the American Legion, Elks, and VFW. In addition to his family he will be missed terribly by his many West Coast friends, his "daughter" Torie (Scott) Duro, her spouse Adam Duro, his beloved grandchildren Zane and Sedona Duro, Judy Scott, Monika Rogasch and his beloved dog, Oliver. Cremation will be private with internment at the Los Angeles Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, October 13, at 10:30 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Elks Lodge on Washington Place in Culver City on Friday, October 15, from 5 – 9 PM.
