The Culver City Council this week approved a roll out plan for the Culver CityBus to switch to 100% battery-electric buses by 2028.

Boosted by a $5.2 million California grant, Culver CityBus is planning to roll out four electric buses with another six to follow afterward to replace the natural gas-powered vehicles that currently make up its fleet, city officials said.

The switch to electric buses was originally brought in 2018 when the California Air Resources Board adopted the Innovative Clean Transit regulation, requiring California public transit agencies to have 100% zero-emission fleets by 2040.

With its planned goal to have a fully zero-emission fleet by 2028, Culver City will beat the deadline by more than a decade.

Culver CityBus is inviting residents to view a video of the roll out of its battery-electric bus at its website: culvercitybus.com/electric.
