Annenberg Beach House conducted its 8th annual cardboard yacht races on Saturday. 47 teams participated.

"For the eighth year, teams of all ages tested their ingenuity in crafting homemade cardboard yachts and getting them across the historic Annenberg Community Beach House pool in this annual race," said a spokeswoman for the beach house in a pre event press release. "For the first year the Regatta will be held during the day and the pool was closed for recreation swim."

Prior to race day, teams constructed yachts from corrugated cardboard and duct tape, and decorated them with a creative theme.

The event followed LA County Department of Public Health's COVID-19 protocols. Unvaccinated persons were "strongly recommended to wear a mask during the event. All persons are required to wear a mask when indoors."

Participants brought their yachts to the Annenberg Community Beach House on race day "to paddle their way across the length of the pool as spectators cheer them on. Awards were given in a variety of categories. Entry fee was $20 per team.

The results of the soggy sailing competition were as follows:

Youth/Youth category, 1st place The Zeetano, 2nd place EMS, 3rd place Titanic 2.0

Youth/Adult category: 1st place Old Faithful, 2nd place The Duct Tape Duck, 3rd place Ships-a-Wreck

Adult/Adult category: 1st place SS Whale Shark, 2nd place Bowser's Airship, 3rd place Kon-Leaky

And award winners:

Marion Davies Award for Fanciest Yacht: Vikings. Most Spirited Crew: Hot Rod . Most Likely to Sink: USS Silver Bullet. Best Use of Theme (tie): The Sunrise Crew / Minecraft Creeper, Crowd Favorite: Kon-Leaky
