The 2020 Olympics, taking place in Tokyo, Japan this year has produced an abundance of happy and disappointing moments. Two of those moments involved former USC track stars, Andre de Grasse and Isaiah Jewett.

Finally, de Grasse won a gold medal after knocking at the golden door for several years on the international stage after leaving USC. He came from behind and overtook two Americans to win the 200 meters in a blazing time of 19.62. He took third in the 100 meters last week to win a bronze medal. He has won five Olympic medals since leaving USC.

Disappointment came win Jewett's heal was clipped by another runner in the 800-meter semifinal which caused him to fall. Jewett turned tragedy into a gesture of sportsmanship that made him a hero around the world. He helped the runner who clipped him up, put his arm around him and they finished the race together. So far that has been the highlight of the Tokyo Olympics.

The Lakers now have a big three when they added Russell Westbrook to a team that already had LeBron James and Anthony Davis. If those players stay healthy, they may be able to win an NBA Championship. The problem is there are a lot of very good teams in the NBA.

The Rams and Chargers kicked off their training camps last week and both teams look like they are moving in the right direction. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford looks very impressive. At 6'3 220 pounds he looks like he is physically ready. After practice last Wednesday at UC Irvine Stafford and backup quarterback John Wolford ran wind sprints in the hot sun.

The big question mark for the Rams in their offensive line. Can they open holes for the running backs, and can they protect the quarterbacks? Rams head coach had this to say about the offensive line last Wednesday. "It's still a little early. I am encouraged with what I have seen the first two days in pads. There is a long, long way to go. There are so many things that go on up front with five guys getting on the same page with communication, but I think we are taking steps in the right direction."
