CCPD Seeking Teens for Explorers Program

The Culver City Police Department is looking for a few good teens for its Explorers Program.

The department is currently accepting applications from teens, aged 14 to 19, for the law enforcement program which begins in September.

During the 12-week Basic Explorer Academy, the young explorers will receive training in the various avenues of law enforcement, said CCPD in a press release.  "The program provides youth an opportunity to gain personal growth, enhance leadership/teamwork skills and make a difference in their community."

Upon graduation, explorers have the opportunity to work alongside Culver City officers during special events, assist with station duties, participate in rides-along and field trips.

The explorer sessions will be held at the El Camino Community College in Torrance, with transportation provided from the Culver City police.

Youth qualifications include: at least a "C" school average; good physical health; good moral character without any serious arrests; and passing background investigations and oral interviews.
