Culver City High Gets Top Ranking in U.S. News' Best Schools Survey

Culver City high school has been recognized as one of the best high schools in California, according to a new ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

Culver High was ranked #240 among more than 2600 public high schools in the Golden State in the publication's latest analysis of upper school education. In fact, it is ranked #1,622 in the nation.

U.S. News reviewed nearly 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia and 1,675 California schools made its rankings, according to its press release.

Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

The methodology used ranking focused on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates.

The data used in this edition is from the 2018-2019 academic school year and, therefore, was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. News said.

Families can also use the rankings to see how schools compare at the national, state and local level on factors such as graduation rates and college readiness, the publication said.

Oxford Academy in Cypress tops the California best schools list while Thomas Jefferson high school for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, was ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Here's are the top 5 California schools: 1) Oxford Academy, Cypress (11 nationally); 2) Whitney high school, Cerritos (25 nationally); 3) California Academy of Mathematics and Science, Carson (32 nationally); 4) Riverside Stem Academy, Riverside (62 nationally); and 5) Mission San Jose High, Fremont (71 nationally).

The 5 top-ranked high schools in nation include Thomas Jefferson high school in Alexandria; Academic Magnet high school in North Charleston, South Carolina; The Davidson Academy of Nevada in Reno, Nevada; Payton College Preparatory high school in Chicago, Illinois; and School for Advanced Studies in Miami, Florida.
