Track is back at Culver City high school

Culver City's Garret LaPalm led the 1600 meter race from start to finish. He extended his lead with every lap, running away from the field with a winning time of 4:51.11. during the meet against Redondo last Saturday.
The track and field season kicked off at Culver City High School last Saturday when the Centaurs hosted Redondo Union in a dual meet. Their next meet is Saturday at North Torrance at 9:15 a.m.

Culver City's Zaire Waring won four races at last Saturday's track and field meet. He won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.97, the 200 meters in 22.51, the 110 high hurdles in 15.95 and the 300 hurdles in 40.42.
"It was good for the first meet," said girl's head coach Rayfield M. Beaton. "I look at the meet to see where we are, and I liked what I saw. Our girls 4X100 relay team ran the fastest first meet time in the last seven years I have coached here. Their 49.3 time is one the fastest times in CIF right now."
Beaton knows this is going to be a special season because of the pandemic so after every meet and every practice he tries to give the teams words of wisdom and encouragement. "I tell told them this week that failure is not the opposite of success. Failure is part of success. I also told them the everyone talks about how beautiful the sunrise is but no talks about the how beautiful the sunset is."
Beaton along the head boy's coach, Jahmal Wright have been producing championship track and field teams at Culver City for the pass 10 years. Beaton is a former USC track record holder and All-American and Wright was an All-CIF track and football star at Culver City High School in the 1990's.
