Culver City students in third through fifth grades will return to campus for in-person instruction beginning next Monday, April 12, the local school district has announced.

This week, transitional kindergarteners through second graders began returning to their campuses, with various safety and health protocols, according to the Culver City Unified School District.

The reopening of the middle school and high school will be announced in the near future, said district spokesman Geoff Maleman.

In a recent letter to parents, CCUSD Supt Leslie Lockhart said, "Los Angeles County is officially in the red tier which that students in grades 6-12 are finally allowed to return to school, following the County Department of Health guidelines."

And this week district officials said they are finalizing the various leaning models before reopening the secondary schools.

Lockhart said more staffers have been vaccinated "which is great news because... less people are getting COVID, as evidenced by the fact that CCUSD has not a single positive case of COVID to report in over a month."

To minimize any exposure to the coronavirus, the district has scheduled cleanings for every classroom and also updated their air filtration systems, school officials said. Every school will also have a nurse or health technician at the location daily.
