Eriksson Still Clinging to 3rd Place in Council Race

With mailed-in ballots being counted daily, Mayor Goran Eriksson is still clinging to third place in the City Council election, according by the Los Angeles County Registrar.

The latest election update show that Eriksson holds a slim lead – 18 votes -- over challenger Freddy Puza for the third open seat on the City Council. The winner will most likely be decided in the final certification.

According to semi-official results released yesterday, Albert Vera still tops the field with 10,596 votes, followed by Yasmine Imani McMorrin with 10,431 votes, Eriksson with 8650 and Puza with 8632 votes. The top three vote getters win seats on the council.

Results also showed the other contenders with following totals: Darrel Menthe with 7,816, Heather Wollin with 3,870, Khin Khin Gyi with 3061, Robert Zirgulis with 2145 and Anthony Rizzo with 1,406.

The latest update also confirmed that incumbent Kelly Kent and Paula Amezola de Herrera have won the two seats on the Culver City School Board, outpacing the third finisher by more than 3000 votes.

Measure B was still headed for defeat while Measure RE is ahead by 800 votes, according to latest results.

County Registrar officials said they are still tabulating a number of mail-in ballots countywide and they will post updates this afternoon, Nov. 24 and Nov. 27.
