Covid-19 Affects Fundraising Activities For Advisory Council

October 22, 2020

Instead of preparing to celebrate another school year, we continue to react in real-time to the exigencies of a global pandemic, civil unrest, and the deepest recession in recent memory. Unfortunately, one of the results of the Corona virus is the shut-down of our schools for health and safety reasons.

The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) has a major responsibility to raise funds for resources and equipment that will enhance the children’s educational experience creatively and academically. Since the pandemic has limited our ability to engage in traditional fundraising activities that normally target our parents, this year we are calling on all businesses within the Culver City community to support our “Friends of the Program” fundraiser in order to raise much needed funds, especially now in these unprecedented times.

While we know that times have been tough for everyone, our enrollment at the Office of Child Development (OCD) which is a part of the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) is down approximately 75% which includes our pre-schools and before and after care at our five elementary school sites.

Andrew Furuto, the new President of PAC stated, “Your gift to PAC, no matter the amount, will help propel our efforts to ensure an excellent educational experience this year and create an environment uniquely suited to the times. Achieving our goal requires broad and deep leadership and commitment throughout the school and our business community and I am proud to see so many people stepping up to join in on this collective effort.”

The newly installed PAC leadership team of Marissa Goode (Secretary), Alex Cobian-Alvarado (Co-Treasurer) and Simone Stevens (Co-Treasurer) hope you will join us in our ambitious endeavor to raise $25,000 for the 2020-2021 school year. We will recognize our generous donors in our monthly newsletter and we will encourage everyone to support our local business community which has also been affected by the pandemic.

Donations can be made online at our website at ocd.ccusd.org and click on “Parent Advisory Council” under “Parents” to donate and please specify “Friends of the Program” in the additional comments section.
