Culver City School Board Incumbent Kelly Kent Launches Virtual 5K Fundraiser

Walk, Run, Bike or Stroll to Support Dr. Kent’s Re-Election Campaign

August 27, 2020

This Monday, August 24, Dr. Kelly Kent will launch a virtual fundraising campaign to support her bid for re-election to Culver City Unified School District’s School Board. Supporters participate in Kelly’s virtual 5K for equity any way they like. Starting this Monday, August 24 through September 30, participants can run, walk, wheelchair, bike on their own time or simply donate. The campaign wants to be sure this event includes everyone from our community.

People who can’t physically join the 5K may also sponsor via pledges of any amount to others who are moving in support of Dr. Kent.

Dr. Kent’s primary platform is equity: “Meeting each individual student’s needs requires a racial justice framework. Within this framework, we address the greatest needs first and foremost. This means our black and brown students. Our students with disabilities. Our English-learner students. Our homeless and foster care students. Our students on free and reduced meals. Each of these groups must be top of mind and require our immediate action. As your CCUSD School Board representative, I will continue to put our historically underserved students first.”

Multiple tiers of support are available. Completing the 5K or supporting someone who does comes with some modern-day swag such as a 5K for Equity neck gaiter which can double as a mask, a commemorative notebook, and a t-shirt. For more information and to register, visit http://www.5K4equity.com.

“I’m a physically active person,” says Kelly. “I miss being able to walk door-to-door to meet families. While this virtual event can’t replace meeting voters and families face-to-face, I’m hoping it will inspire people to get out and move during an election cycle that is facing unprecedented challenges.”
