Coronavirus Infection Rate Slowing Down in Culver City

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Culver City is rising at a slow rate while Los Angeles County is setting new daily records of infection, the County Health Department has reported.

As of press time Wednesday, the number of local residents with Covid-19 rose to 176 cases, a 9% increase in the past 2 weeks. Deaths related to coronavirus totaled 26 in Culver City.

According to Public Health officials, 56 cases of Covid-19 and 11 deaths were reported at Marina Pointe Healthcare and Subacute in Culver City.

County-wide, the total infected now stands at 77,189 with 2991 deaths. Ninety-three percent of people who died had underlying health conditions. On Wednesday, Public Health Department reported 2129 cases of the coronavirus, the highest number of new cases in one day in Los Angeles County.

The rate of infection in Culver City stands at 441 per 100,000 population. The more affluent areas appear to have much lower per 100K levels, including Santa Monica at 368, Cheviot Hills 273, Brentwood 297, Century City 360 and West Los Angeles 287.

"While many may be feeling relief that more business and facilities are opening, and that people are going back to work, please remember the key to moving through our recovery journey successfully is to look out for one another," said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health. "This means practicing social distancing as much as possible and wearing a cloth face covering whenever you are around other people who are not from your household."

The Public Health Department also announced yesterday that it has completed testing of all the residents and staff at the 315 skilled nursing facilities in Los Angeles County. Of the over 30,000 test results currently available of staff and residents, 6% tested positive for Covid-19 and 78% of the people testing positive were asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic. The Department also revealed that the average daily deaths at skilled nursing facilities has dropped from 25 in May to 16 in early June.

Looking at the infection rate for CC, it seems quite low when compared to LOS ANGELES. But why is it almost double our closest and most comparable neighbors? One more death is too many.
