For some teams in Los Angeles winning the majority of their games is simply not good enough to satisfy fans and sports writers. Other teams in Los Angeles can get away with losing but not the Dodgers, Rams and USC football.
The Dodgers have been one of the best teams in Major League baseball for the past several years yet if they don’t win the World Series everyone wants to fire the manager Dave Roberts. The Rams went to the Super Bowl last year but this year they have lost five games out of 13 and now Jared Goff is bad quarterback and Sean McVay is not a very good coach. The Rams are still in the playoff conversation. USC football won eight out of 12 games after a season full of injuries and some of the sports writers at the Los Angeles Times say he needs to be fired.
No one talks about the Kings and the Ducks having a bad year. What about UCLA football? They have been awful for the past two years. The Chargers are 5-8 after making the playoff last year.
Fans and sports writers should be thankful for competitive teams that might not win the championship. We could be living in New York. The Jets, Giants, Knicks and Nets have not been terrible for many years.
The Rams have won two games in a row and Sunday they travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys but their 28-12 win over Seattle last Sunday at the Coliseum was impressive. “I thought our defense was outstanding from the start,” said Rams head coach Sean McVay after the win on Sunday. “It was a big time win for us. Now we have to do a great job next week against the Cowboys.”
For the Rams and for almost every football team it all starts with the play of the defensive and offensive line. McVay had this to say about the play of the offensive line the last two week, “It’s been really impressive. It’s been great. You have seen those guys get more and more comfortable, confident and they are physical. I have been really pleased with that group.”
The Lakers and Clippers are still two of the best teams in the NBA. The USC football team will play in the Holiday Bowl on December 27, at 5 p.m. The USC and UCLA men’s basketball teams will play games this weekend. The Bruins play at Notre Dame on Saturday at 12 p.m. and USC will face Long Beach State at home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
