Kamryn Stone, an 18-year-old student at West Los Angeles College, was shot and killed during an altercation in the parking lot of the Rose Bowl Stadium, hours after the UCLA-Oklahoma college football game had concluded.

On its Facebook page, West Los Angeles College posted a tribute to the fallen student. “#WestLACollege sends our condolences to the family and friends of student Kamryn Stone who was killed Saturday outside of the Rose Bowl about three hours after the UCLA vs Oklahoma football game, according to a report by CBS Los Angeles. Kamryn’s father indicated his son was studying real estate here at West after graduating from Culver City High School where he played football. CBS says that police believe Kamryn, who was at work for a cleaning crew, was ‘simply in the wrong place at the wrong time,’” the statement reads.

The news of the passing of Stone shook up more than a few people who responded to West Los Angeles College posting of the tragic incident on Facebook.

“Deepest condolences goes out amongst the family members and friends who knew him be encouraged and stay encouraged even through our this difficult time and may the Lord comforter you all and note the He is with you always even until the end of the earth,” wrote Tequana Reed.

“This breaks my heart...so sad,” said Narcisa Rojas-Madrid. “May he rest in peace and may his family find peace and strength to cope during this difficult time. My sincere condolences to his family.”

Phillip Valdez added this remark: “It’s usually the best taken as in this case,” he said.

According to a released statement put out by the Pasadena Police Department, around 11:22 p.m., officers responded to a call of an altercation and shots being fired. When police arrived on the scene, they found two male victims injured from gunshot wounds. Besides Stone being hit, a 51-year-old white male was also wounded, according to police.

Both men were transported to a nearby hospital. Stone, who reportedly was on his first day of work with a cleaning crew, later succumbed to his injuries. Police said that the cleaning crew that Stone was a part of were about to be sent home when the incident occurred.

While police have yet to establish a motive behind the altercation and shooting, they stated that the incident may not have been random in nature. The case is currently under investigation. The Culver City Observer placed several phone calls to Pasadena Police Department detectives handling the investigation.

Before attending West Los Angeles College where was reportedly studying real estate, Stone attended Culver City High School in the ninth and 10th grades as a student before reportedly transferring to Westchester high school. Culver High football coach Jahmal Wright remembers Stone as basically a good kid who wanted to enjoy life.

“Kamryn was very loyal and passionate about his relationships with his friends and teammates, and (he) also came from a close-knit family,” Wright said via email. “Kamryn got along with everybody, had a lot of friends, very outgoing and confident. His peers loved to be around him.”

Though he only played two seasons for the Centaurs, Wright said Stone’s talent was obvious.

“Kamryn was an exceptional football player who was fearless,” Wright said. “Kamryn was a respectful and lovable student.”
