Junior linebacker Quinten Brunson has 16 tackles in Culver's first two games.

The beautiful South Bay hills in the Palos Verdes Peninsula has some terrific views of Los Angeles. In this semi-rural setting, it almost seems like the last place you would look to find a football game between two 2018 playoff schools. But that was the setting when the Culver City Centaurs brought their offensive juggernaut to Palos Verdes Peninsula high school.

On Friday afternoon, Zevi Eckhaus completed 23 of 27 passes for 474 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Culver City Centaurs to an impressive 60-21 win over the Peninsula high school Panthers at the Panthers home stadium in Rolling Hills Estates. Eckhaus also ran for 25 yards on four carries, adding a rushing touchdown. The Centaurs took an early 31-0 lead and never looked back.

The Centaurs are coming off a 2018 season where they won the Southern Section Division 7 Championship, beating San Jacinto 61-21. The final score in this game was almost the same. The Panthers are coming off a 2018 season in which they got to the 2018 Southern Section Division 11 Championship game, losing 49-21 to Western high school of Anaheim.

Eckhaus is blessed with a lot of team speed, which makes his job at quarterback that much easier. Wide receiver Chris Miller caught nine passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns, with a beautiful 55-yard touchdown pass from Eckhaus the highlight of the day.

Running back Mekhi Evans-Bey, a track star who won CIF-SS Division 2 finals in the 400 meters, rushed for 136 yards in just ten carries, including a 60-yard touchdown dash for a touchdown.

Senior Cornerback Khary Crump, who has verbally committed to the University of Arizona to play football, had eight tackles, an interception and a kickoff return for a touchdown. Wide receiver Makai Cope, a junior, caught three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. Cope has offers from Michigan, Syracuse and Washington State. There is no lack of talent on this Culver City football team.

The Centaurs travel to Downey this Friday, Sept. 13, to visit the Warren high school Bears. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The Bears are another quality opponent and a 2018 Division 7 playoff team as well. Warren lost to Northview high school in the second round and Northview lost to Culver City in the third round of the playoffs.
