Five Culver City High School teenagers were attacked Friday night at approximately 10 pm as they rode the Expo line home from the beach in Santa Monica.

A second group of 15 teenagers also boarded the eastbound train and the two groups began chatting and dancing to music.

The five Culver City teenagers exited the train at the Culver City station and with the larger group following them. The second group allegedly attacked the Culver City group, stealing their belongings.

Robbery appears to be the motive.

The Culver City Police Department confirmed that on Friday August 1 they had three teenage suspects in custody.

According to reports in the Santa Monica Mirror, Susan Hannemann, mother of two of the victims, her 14-year-old son's jaw was broken in two places and he suffered a head injury after getting punched and her 16-year-old son who intervened also got punched in the head. Her 14-year-old was taken to Cedars-Sinai Marina Del Rey Hospital, where a CT scan showed that he may have sustained a minor brain hemorrhage. A second CT scan at Cedars-Sinai Los Angeles Saturday morning, however, showed no evidence of internal bleeding, according to Hannemann.

In addition, one girl suffered a broken nose while other teenagers sustained bruises but neither were hospitalized, said Hannemann.

Hannemann said she will no longer allow her children to ride the train at night.

Because all the victims and suspects were minors the Culver City Police Department would not release the names.
