Culver Plunge Evacuated

Police Draw Guns on Suspected Car Thief

 

On Monday, June 17 in the early afternoon the Culver City Police Department was summoned to assist the Los Angeles Police Department about a stolen vehicle in the area of Overland Avenue and Braddock Drive in front of the plunge. The plunge was filled with children and parents swimming and taking lessons. With police activity visible from the plunge are and in an abundance of caution staff quickly evacuated the pool area.

Upon arrival police found the male driver in the car. With the vehicle being reported stolen the officers conducted a "felony traffic stop" which required approaching the with guns drawn.

The driver complied with the officer's orders to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident CCPD said in a press release.

The officers found the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine and other stolen property. It was later determined that the driver had an 11-year-old child with him, who was swimming at The Plunge. The driver was arrested, and the child was taken into protective custody and later released to a family member. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services was contacted and made aware of the situation.

Police report the stolen vehicle was returned to its owner.
