Police Standoff in Separate Incident Leads to Murder suspect Near Freeway

 

Washington Boulevard was closed in both directions at Inglewood Avenue Sunday morning by Culver City Police Department after area residents reported hearing shots fired. Police reported hearing an additional shot fired upon their arrival. LAPD located a suspect at the Rodeway Inn at the corner of Washington Blvd and Atlantic Avenue.

The man was a suspect in an earlier shooting on Flower Ct. in Venice.

Residents also reported hearing helicopters circling the area. Washington Blvd. was closed until late afternoon.

After several hours police entered the room and found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim of the shooting in Venice was transported to the hospital.

In an unrelated incident police chased a man suspected of being involved in a double shooting in downtown Los Angeles early Tuesday morning. He was later arrested near Culver City.


The shooting took place around midnight near the corner of 6th and Maple streets in downtown Los Angeles. The pursuit took police through the downtown area of Los Angeles, South Los Angeles onto the 105 Freeway then north on the 405 before exiting at Braddock Avenue near Culver City. He then careened into a parked car in the Del Rey area. The suspect allegedly broke into a home where a family was sleeping. Police were able to get the family safely out of the house.

After a 5-hour standoff the LAPD SWAT team fired tear gas canisters into the home and the suspect was apprehended without further incident at approximately 6am.


The victim in the shooting was taken to the hospital where he later died. A passenger in the car was also shot and was listed in stable condition.
