Betty Chiyoko Shinmoto (92-year-old), long time resident of Culver City and co-owner of Southern California Nursery (closed in 1999), lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease on Sunday, December 10, 2017. The longest goodbye peacefully ended with her three children at her bedside. The family takes comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is back to herself in a better place with her husband and soulmate Tony Tsuneo Shinmoto.
She is survived by; daughters, Julie Shinmoto (Cary) Uyemura, Lynn Shinmoto (Donald) Devirian; son, Mark Sukio (Sharlene) Shinmoto; grandchildren, Bryan Tsuneo Uyemura, Christopher Isao and Ryan Toshiro McDonald, Samantha Chiyoko, Brittany Yoshiko and Danielle Michiko Shinmoto; sister, Gladys (Toshio) Shimamoto; she is also survived by many relatives and friends in the United States and Japan.
A Memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, February 17, 2018, 11 a.m. at Nishi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 815 E. 1st Street, Los Angeles 90012.
